Doing Business in the RIC
<span style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">The nations of the RIC (Russia, India, China) are quickly becoming dominant forces in the world’s economic landscape due to manufacturing capacity, raw materials, labor and, increasingly, technology. While we have seen an influx of companies from the RIC into Silicon Valley, the RIC also represents foreign expansion opportunities.</span>
This session of the Going Global Special Interest Group (SIG) series will focus on investments in companies of the RIC, including both foreign companies establishing a US presence or US companies expanding into other countries.
During this SIG’s panel session we will explore such issues as:
Issues for US companies doing business in the RIC
Investment in RIC companies
Considerations of companies who partner with globally-focused venture capitalists
What trends should US companies be aware of in foreign investment?
Which areas are the most active in foreign direct investment?
Panelists will include international VCs with experience investing in RIC-oriented companies, both in the US and abroad. Attendees can expect to hear real life stories from experienced investors and obtain practical guidance based on their experience. The panelists will discuss the trends and significances of foreign capitalization, and the important differences between foreign expansion and foreign investment.

Chinese Panelist
Yanhong Lin is co-founder and executive director of the US-China Council for Technology Innovation and Cooperation (CTIC), a non-profit organization that promotes international trade and investment between the US and China, with a focus on Energy and Clean Technologies. She has been assisting US companies enter the Chinese Market. Recently she has also been increasingly busy consulting to Chinese companies who must look outward to expand their markets and grow beyond China.
Yanhong Lin has close to 20 years of business and financial experience working for Fortune 100 companies in the high-tech and energy industries. Prior to founding CTIC, she led the Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis team at Sun Microsystems. She received her BA from Western Illinois University and MBA from University of Illinois University at Urbana-Champaign.
Russian Panelist:
Tatyana Kanzaveli is an entrepreneur, mentor at 500Startups, TEDxBayArea organizer. She has broad experiences in sales/marketing/business development, technology, investing. Indian Panelist:
Ankur Jain is a Vice President at Nexus Venture Partners. Ankur has several years of experience as an investor, operational executive and consultant.
Prior to joining Nexus, Ankur was Vice President at Blumberg Capital and invested in early stage companies. Previously, he did strategy consulting at Accenture. Earlier, Ankur led product teams at Cisco following its acquisition of Andiamo Systems in 2004 where he was an early engineer. Prior to that, Ankur held engineering roles at Softaware Networks and later at Digital Island which acquired Softaware Networks in 2000.
Ankur holds a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Delhi, an M.S. in Computer Science from UCLA, and an MBA in Management from the Wharton School where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar. Ankur is also a co-inventor for five technology patents
